ABOUT CAP21

CAP21 is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the creation of new work, the development of new talent, and the building of new audiences.  In 2000, The New York Times called CAP21’s production of The Immigrant “a deeply satisfying new musical.”  Most recently, CAP21 produced Debra Barsha’s A Womb With A View, Pages: A New Musical by Will Van Dyke and Josh Halloway and The 60’s Project (conceived and written by Janet Brenner, directed by Richard Maltby, Jr) which went on to GoodSpeed Opera House and is scheduled for a national tour in 2007.  Other productions include John Pielmeier’s The Classics Professor, Goddess Wheel with music by Galt MacDermot and lyrics by Matty Selman; Stuart Ross and Debra Barsha’s Radiant Baby; and a new version of Starmites by Barry Keating and Stuart Ross.

The CAP21 Conservatory was founded in 1993 by Frank and Eliza Ventura as a response to the need for in depth acting training in musical theatre. The mission of the Conservatory is to train actors who sing and dance as well as to provide performance outlets for its students.  Since 1995, over 60 CAP21 alums have been cast in 70 different Broadway shows including 42nd Street, Annie Get Your Gun, Cabaret, Fosse, Hairspray, Jane Eyre, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia, Man of La Mancha, Oklahoma!, The Crucible, The Full Monty, The Producers, The Radio City Rockettes, Gypsy, Little Shop of Horrors, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Light in the Piazza, The Woman in White, A Chorus Line, and Spring Awakening not to mention national and international tours and regional theatre productions across the country.  Currently, the Conservatory trains over 400 students annually and has a 65-member faculty.
