Martha Sullivan

Awards as a composer: Dale Warland Choral Ventures, winning composer, 2003, Manhattan Choral Ensemble, commissioning award, 2009, Sorel Medallion, bronze medalist, 2009 (included Carnegie Hall premiere). Highlights as a solo singer: VOX, City Opera's  lab for new music, 2007 and 2009, as Louise in "The Rat Land", Eastern Festival, Musetta in "La Bohème," 2007, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, soloist in Steve Reich's Tehillim, 2005. Sullivan sings choral jobs constantly, and has performed under Robert Shaw, Robert Spano, James Levine, and many others.Musical theatre/operetta  roles: Domina in "A Funny Thing … ", one of the Liebeslieder singers in "A Little Night Music", Katisha in "The Mikado," and Iolanthe in "Iolanthe". Teaching : Primary grades (Cambridge , MA, and The Waldorf School, Lexington, MA), High School (Tanglewood, The Waldorf School), College (CAP21, Boston University). Directing: Opera scenes  at Tanglewood, and full-length pieces at the Waldorf School (Iolanthe). Groups she has conducted: Canterbury Singers (Boston), founder and music director, Vinovana Folk Orchestra and Chorus (Boston), founder and music director, C4 (New York), one of several conductors.
