CAP21 Productions and New Works
Since its inception, CAP21 has been devoted to the
development of new works - both plays and musicals. Through CAP21's
Barbara Wolff Monday Night Reading Series, Blackjacks Festival, and
workshop productions, many new plays, musicals, and screenplays, have
found their home. Dedicated to nurturing an artist and their work, CAP21
provides a process of development. We recently retired our Blackjacks
Festival, creating instead a process of frequent in-house readings. It
is possible for a play or musical to have its beginning in-house, then
move to The Barbara Wolff Monday Night Reading Series, and then to a
workshop or full-production.
THE BARBARA WOLFF MONDAY NIGHT
READING SERIES
This series is for the writer to see and hear their
work at an early stage of development, thus beginning the process of
developing it to the next level. All the readings take place in The Shop
at CAP21.
After the readings, the writer has the option for a
brief Talkback session. This can be in the form of a question and answer
session moderated by the Artistic Director, Literary Manager or
Director, or a meeting with the artistic staff at CAP21. CAP21 also
offers "in-house" readings. Not open to the public, these readings are
truly for the writer to hear a piece that may not be ready for a public
forum. Typically those readings would include members of the artistic
staff at CAP21, the writer, the director and the actors.
WORKS IN PROGRESS / PRODUCTIONS
CAP21 has produced over 25 new musicals and plays
within its Professional Theatre Company and Conservatory. The Shop at
CAP21 is the performance space for all productions. This opportunity
provides the writers with a chance to work on their piece in a safe
environment where we may invite audience and colleagues to see the work
yet there are no reviews allowed. There is a four to five week rehearsal
process. Using minimal production elements, the focus of the work is to
develop the piece.
FULL PRODUCTIONS
