Frequently Asked Questions

 1. When is my application complete?
Your application is complete when we have received the written application and application question responses responses, SAT/ACT scores (high school students only), two recommendation letters and your official high school or college transcript. Not all of these items are required for all programs. Please visit the individual program pages for specific information.
 
2. Do you accept the Common Application?
Not at this time. 
 
3. When will I receive an admission decision?
It usually takes 30 days for an admissions decision to be made once your application is complete. 

4. How many letters of recommendation do I need?
CAP21 requires two letters of recommendation. If you would like to submit additional recommendations you may; but it will not affect your application standing. 

5. When can I visit CAP21?
CAP21 arranges visits year round. Please call 212-807-0202 ext. 21 to arrange a tour.

6. Is an interview required?
Phone interviews are not required for all programs. If you are applying to a program that does require a phone interview you will be contacted by a CAP21 staff member once we have received your complete written application.

7. Do you offer scholarships? Am I automatically considered for scholarships?
Applicants are not automatically considered for scholarships. CAP21 currently offers a Need-Based/Workstudy Scholarship for those applicants applying to the 2-Year Professional Musical Theatre Training Program and the Industry Musical Theatre Practicum and Showcase. Applicants that have significant financial need must submit the scholarship application before auditioning.

8. What is the scholarship deadline?
Scholarship funds are limited. Applicants interested in applying for scholarships should do so as soon as possible.

9. How much is the application fee?
The application fees range from $35 - $100 depending on the program.

10. When should I apply?

CAP21 has rolling admission which means that we accept people until all slots are full. The sooner you apply the better.

11. What standardized tests does CAP21 accept?
CAP21 accepts both the SAT and the ACT.

12. Does CAP21 accept AP/IB credits?
CAP21 does not accept AP and IB credits.

13. How can I request information?
To request information about any one of our training programs please send an e-mail to [email protected] with your first name, last name, address, phone number, and the name of the program in which you are interested.

14. What do I need to do after I am accepted to enroll?
In order to attend CAP21, the next step after you are accepted is to send us your non-refundable tuition deposit along with the rest of your signed paperwork that will be included in your acceptance packet.

15. How do I pay my tuition deposit?
You can pay by check, money order or credit card. If you want to pay by check or money order, just enclose them with your signed paperwork and mail to:

16. How does housing work?

Students that study at CAP21 provide their own housing.  Upon receipt of your deposit accepted students are given CAP21's Housing Resource list which contains several different types of living arrangements. CAP21 staff members are available to make recommendations and help with this process.
