COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Acting/Scene Study
Focuses on text analysis, sensory work, actions and truthful behavior in the scene. Classical and contemporary plays by the finest playwrights are worked on.
Acting/Musical Scene Study
Utilizes text from The Golden Age through present day to teach the student the basics of acting technique within a musical scene. Rehearsal techniques are highly emphasized to insure that script analysis integrates truthful acting objectives.
Vocal Performance
Music and lyrics are approached from the actor's point of view; lyrics are explored as monologues and music is considered an enhancement for dramatic intention. Basic acting elements of time, place and character are applied to the vocal performance.
Vocal Technique
Focuses on the physical production of musical theatre sounds: legit, belt and mix. Technical skills addressed include alignment, release of tension, and the production of sounds most commonly heard in musical theatre.
Dance Program
Dance training every day for 1.5 to 3 hours. The basic areas of concentration are ballet, jazz/theatre dance and tap.
Music Theory
Develops the students sight reading skills in order to learn music efficiently. The main focus is on sight singing and ear training with written theory introduced as needed to support the goal of being able to sight read unfamiliar material. Advanced musicians may test out of this class. (No substitute class will be provided).
Audition Technique
Actors will identify appropriate material for their type and roles for which they might be auditioning. The class will focus on selecting and polishing material for specific types of auditions as well as entrance/exit, dress, communication with the panel and overall presentation for an audition.
Business of Theatre
Helps the actor demystify "the business". Elements such as dealing with agents, managers and casting directors; union/non-union employment; headshots, resumes & correspondence; and learning who does what are some of the areas that will be clarified and discussed.
