CAP21/Molloy College BFA Theatre Arts Program Coordinator
The CAP21 Musical Theatre Conservatory seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative, and organized self-starter to join its team as a part-time coordinator for the new and burgeoning partnership between the CAP21 Conservatory and the Molloy College BFA Program in Theatre Arts. The position is approximately 30 hours per week, with the potential to expand to a full time position over the next several years.
The Coordinator plays a vital role in the development of this program, as well as managing the seamless operation of the BFA program. The Coordinator supports efficient and effective communications and promotes a positive and collaborative work environment. The Coordinator supports and assists the Conservatory/Molloy BFA Director in day to day operations of the CAP21 Conservatory programs. The position reports to the Conservatory Director.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing grading/student evaluations, attendance records, student correspondence
- Assisting the Conservatory/Molloy BFA Program Director and Teacher of Record in assigning advisors and serving as an advisor for some Conservatory students
- Serving as a facilitator in addressing student concerns
- Working in support of, and in partnership with, the Conservatory Director, Department Chairs, and other Conservatory faculty and staff
The ideal candidate promotes collaboration and open communication among all parties involved in creating a successful program. S/he works well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, is detail-oriented, a multi-tasker, and a proactive problem solver. In addition, s/he will have advanced computer skills across Microsoft platforms.
Qualifications include:
- Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in an arts-related discipline
- A minimum of 3 years' professional experience in arts administration, education and the performing arts, with a preference for additional experience in education management
- Experience working with faculty and students in a professional capacity
- Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of Filemaker or other database systems a plus.
While this is primarily an administrative position, opportunities to work as a member of the CAP21 faculty may exist for highly qualified individuals. Salary commensurate with experience. REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience required.
• Must be willing to work within a collaborative training program.

• Teachers with performing experience should also include a performance resume.
• Minimum educational background needed for employment is a Bachelor's Degree or comparable training program. Advanced degrees or significant performing experience in musical theater are highly desirable.

Courses Offered within the CAP21 programs and skill requirements for each course:
Knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, stylistic periods, vocal requirements of repertoire, classroom management skills, and the ability to teach the technique of acting through song in a group setting.
Piano skills, transposition skills, knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, stylistic periods, and vocal requirements of repertoire.
Knowledge of acting technique and applicable material, stylistic periods, classroom management skills, and the ability to teach the technique of acting in a group setting.
Knowledge of acting technique and applicable musical theatre scenes/material, stylistic periods, classroom management skills, and the ability to teach the technique of acting in a group setting through the use of musical scenes.
Classroom management skills, the ability to teach the technique of musical theatre singing in a group setting, basic piano skills, and knowledge of sequential learning through songs.
Knowledge of the mechanics of the singing voice, repertoire suitable to musical theater training (for all voice types), ability to teach legit, mix, and belt, sufficient piano skills to accompany students during lessons, and a desire to work within a collaborative training program. The ability to demonstrate is a plus.
Extensive knowledge of Linklater technique, knowledge of speech, and classroom management skills.
Extensive knowledge of IPA, transcription, and application of voice sounds to text.
Extensive knowledge of IPA, dialects (Southern, British, Cockney, Standard American, New York, etc.).
Teaching experience required, performing experience a plus, knowledge of physical requirements for musical theatre performers. Dance types include: ballet, tap, jazz, theatre dance, modern, hip hop, and song and dance.
Working knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, willing to work with solfege and numbers, classroom management skills, piano skills, and understanding of sight reading skills needed for musical theatre performers.
Ability to transpose at sight, familiar with stylistic requirements of musical theatre repertoire from traditional to pop/rock musicals, and willing to work with the classroom instructor.
