It is my mission to ensure that the CAP21 Theatre Company be sustained as an artistic center of theatrical creativity and innovation. We are striving for collaboration and excellence: where ideas and visions are celebrated and lead to the creation of new work. At CAP21 we respect the voice of the writer, and will not shy away from any subject matter. We believe there are voices in the American Theatre that reflect the diversity of our great culture and they must be heard. When selecting material I focus on imagination, craft and relevance in today's world. I love a good story.
-Eliza Ventura
CAP21 was founded in 1993 by Frank and Eliza Ventura. For nearly twenty years, The CAP21 Theatre Company has developed and produced new plays and musicals by emerging and established theatre writers. Projects produced and developed at CAP21 often move on to subsequent productions and workshops at other theatre companies around the country including: The Goodspeed Opera House, Barrington Stage, Florida Stage, The Village Theatre, Theatre for the New City, The Public Theatre, NAMT Festival of New Works and Palo Alto TheatreWorks New Works Festival. CAP21 chooses its projects based on the fine talents of the writers and themes that are relevant to the world today. These themes have included human rights in the LGBT community worldwide, freedom of choice in dying for the elderly, the power of young women to affect change in our culture, anti-war, the complexity of the internet world and the second life identity experience online, SIDS, and of course, love stories.
