Describe your experience with Summer Stock NYC:
I thoroughly enjoyed working as the directing intern. I have never had any experience with directing before and it was very interesting to sit on 'the other side of the table.' I was also able to learn about how to work as an A2 and assist with setting up and delivering/returning wireless microphones before and after the show, as well as helping with pre-setting costumes and executing quick changes during the show.
What did you learn from working in a professional theatre setting?
I learned a lot about professionalism in the workplace by watching these rehearsals. I learned some basics about directing (I really enjoyed working with Scott), and I learned a lot by watching the equity actors in their private rehearsals. I also learned a lot about working backstage with microphones and with costumes. Nick was able to teach me a lot about different equity rehearsal rules - breaks, etc.
What was the most successful aspect or element of your experience?
Being the directing intern really helped me understand how a professional rehearsal should be run. It allowed me to see how professional actors work in rehearsal, their level of preparation, and the way the director interacts with them to guide them.
Are there any other comments you can share to provide insight for future participants in Summer Stock NYC?
