Describe your experience with Summer Stock NYC:
I had the best time with Summer Stock NYC. It was a great experience to be a Stage Manager Intern because I was able to observe the rehearsal process from a different point of view. I learned so much from the directors and choreographers working on the piece and the stage manager too, about how a professional production is put together. It's so different from a school production.
What did you learn from working in a professional theatre setting?
I learned how all components of theatre must meld, to have a successfully working production.
What was the most successful aspect or element of your experience?
One of my responsibilities was to do the follow-spot along with my assistant stage manager duties. I felt an extreme sense of responsibility and pride to do it. It was fun to give the actors light to express and present what they had worked so hard to perfect.
Are there any other comments you can share to provide insight for future participants in Summer Stock NYC?
If you are fortunate to be part of the process you must stay committed and professional. Just because it is Summer Stock doesn't mean that it is less important than a Broadway show. It's an opportunity to meet and work with theatre professionals who are well known in the industry, and you want to leave a positive lasting impression with all involved. Work hard, and have fun!
