Describe your experience with Summer Stock NYC:

When I first auditioned I was not sure what to expect. I knew that it would be a professional experience but because I am a student at CAP21 I didn't know how to work with my teachers as professionals rather than as I knew them on a personal level. It turns out that the training I have received at CAP21 prepared me for this very experience. I had the opportunity to not only work with fantastic choreographers, directors, and actors but I got to see how the work in the classroom translates to the stage, to the professional work environment, and in a fast paced setting where things change at a moment's notice. Summer Stock NYC taught me to adapt quickly and listen carefully, building on the foundation that the CAP21 program teaches me in preparation for an opportunity like the one this summer. The people I met and the work I did will live with me forever.

What did you learn from working in a professional theatre setting?

I learned invaluable lessons about how to communicate with your superiors, with your colleagues, and with the audience. It also put into perspective why acting school and the preparation it provides you with is so important: The work ethic required by teachers at CAP21 made me completely sure of how to show respect, use common sense, and go beyond the expected and do my absolute best.

What was the most successful aspect or element of your experience?

Learning how much energy each moment on stage takes, especially when everyone else on stage is just as committed to making a great show. I saw what 110% can be and I want to give my all in every production I perform in from now on.

Are there any other comments you can share to provide insight for future participants in Summer Stock NYC?

I think it would be best to go beyond the director or choreographer's expectations. Go for it! It is better that you put as much energy and focus into your work rather than 'marking' through something that will be important in the long run. Give it your all at every rehearsal and you will see the results in the performances.
