Course Descriptions

Musical Theatre Intensive:
Grades 3-5: Saturdays, 11:30am-1:00pm
Grades 6-8: Wednesdays, 4:00pm-5:30 pm
What's the difference between singing a pretty song and delivering a knock-out audition that books the job?  Telling the truth and making big discoveries on stage! Originality, creativity, and exposure to new material are the cornerstones of this fun class! Song presentation, lyric interpretation, character development, and musicality will be covered both one-on-one and in an ensemble setting.  Each student will be given a song to develop and perform for family and friends on the last day of class.

Acting & Building the Character:
Grades 3-5: Tuesdays, 4:00pm-5:30pm
Grades 6-8: Tuesdays, 6:00pm-7:30pm
In this class, students will learn to rid themselves of nerves and self-consciousness by focusing on relationships and asking key questions on stage. We will discover essential truths in acting through scene study, improvisation, and character development, as well as one-on-one monologue and scene work. Fun warm ups, theater games, and comedic scene work are sure to make this class a favorite.  Each student will be given a monologue or scene to develop and perform for family and friends on the last day of class.

Tap with Billy Elliot's Thommie Retter
Grades 3-8:  Thursdays, 6pm-7pm (Advanced Beginner) or
Thursdays, 7pm-8pm (Intermediate/Advanced)
Thommie Retter will not only give you the most fun you have ever had in tap class- he will also give you the technique, showmanship, and tools needed to succeed in a professional audition.  Thommie has a fun, spirited way of teaching involving the entire class.  No one is ever left out and everyone always feels a sense of accomplishment after each session.  Don't miss your chance to study with a true Broadway professional.

Dance Audition Technique:Taught by Jason Marquette

Grades 3-8: Wednesdays, 6:00pm-7:30pm
This class is for the young dancer who wants to improve auditioning skills. Classes will be held in the format of a musical theater dance audition. A new combination will be taught every week, and individual feedback is provided.  A rehearsed number from this class will be performed in the end-of-semester showcase.

Musical Theatre Company:*Acceptance by Audition Only*
Grades 3-8: Saturdays, 2:00pm-5:00pm
The CAP21 Musical Theatre Company is designed for the dedicated actor who is eager to take his or her training to the next level.  In this three hour class, company members will receive intensive training in all areas of musical theater.  Broadway performers and working professional artists will serve as guest teachers once a month to give feedback and instruction on both solo work and ensemble work.  Company members will perform solos and group numbers in the end-of-semester showcase.
10 Weeks $650
*Must be currently enrolled in Musical Theatre Intensive, Acting and Building the Character, or Audition Dance Technique to audition*
