This program is open to current high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. 

Admission is through application and audition.  The application should be sent in before the audition date.  You may call and schedule an audition at any point during the application process. 

The application process includes the following: 

  •  Application Form
  • Current headshot and resume
  • Two letters of recommendation.  It is required that recommenders use our  Recommendation Form. These can be sent in with the application or sent in separately.
  • $50.00 application fee.  Payable by check, credit card or money order. This fee is non-refundable.
  • Audition via electronic submission or in person.

Early Application Deadline: February 2, 2015
Late Application Deadline: May 1, 2015
Prospective students submitting an application after May 1, 2015 should contact the Admissions Department. 

ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION
Acceptance notices are sent within 30 days of auditions.

2015 AUDITION DATES
Auditions are at 18 W 18th St. between 5th and 6th Ave in New York City. The Conservatory offices are located on the 6th Floor.

For the audition, prepare 32 bars of an up-tempo and a ballad and a one-minute monologue of your choosing. Please only use monologues from published full-length plays or screenplays. An accompanist will be provided. Bring the sheet music in the key you will be singing. We encourage you to choose age-appropriate material that you connect to and that shows us who you are. Please feel free to call us if you or your parents have any questions or concerns.

NEW! Prospective students living outside of the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) can now submit their audition on-line.  On-line Audition requirements are the same as in person, EXCEPT we ask that you tell us a bit about yourself at the beginning of your electronic submission so we can get a feel of your personality.  Please introduce your pieces before you perform them.

CAP21 accepts on a rolling admission basis. Students are notified of acceptance or decline within ten business days of their audition. The program usually fills up by mid-April, once the in person audition dates are complete.  Students who apply/audition after the program is filled are placed on a wait-list.

All applicants must demonstrate the following proficiencies for admission to the Summer High School Musical Theatre Training Program:

  • A desire for comprehensive training in acting, singing and dance, while experiencing the rigor of Conservatory style training.
  • Clear articulation of individual goals, sufficient English skills and the ability to understand language.
  • An openness and willingness to learn from faculty and peers.
  • A healthy physical instrument to participate fully in the program.

Wait List Policy:
Wait lists are created when a program meets maximum capacity. The proficiency expectation criteria for programs listed in the CAP21 Student Handbook and on the CAP21 website will be used to determine placement on a program's wait list. The size of the program and departmental projections will determine the number of students placed on a program's wait list. If a student is accepted into a program from the wait list, they will be notified when the position becomes available. If a student is not accepted from the wait list into a program, they will be notified at least 30 days prior to the start date of the program.
